What is a Physiatrist?
Doctors of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also called physiatrists, are experts in the treatment of all conditions that affect movement. They treat pain and sports injuries, orthopedic disorders, limb loss, brain and spinal cord injuries, and are also skilled in post-stroke rehabilitation and wound care. They may employ many other specialists such as physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, wound care nurses, brace specialists, and prosthetists in a team approach to rehabilitation. Physiatrists are experts at coordinating care, keeping patients at the center of treatment.
