A prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part, which may be lost through trauma, disease, or congenital conditions. Prosthetic rehabilitation for someone who has suffered limb loss is coordinated by a prosthetist, and an inter-disciplinary team of health care professionals, including a physiatrist (medical doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation), surgeon, physical therapists, and occupational therapists.
